The Chamber continued its support of the Blue Flag Programme which is administered by the Negril Area Environmental Protection Trust. This programme which originated in Europe permits the posting of flags in specific area to signify that there is an acceptable standard of coastal water quality, safety and environmental education and environmental management. During the year two entities received certification – Merrils 11 Hotel and the Norman Manley Sea Park. It is expected that other businesses will take advantage of this programme which is a good marketing tool for the tourism product. The Chamber acknowledges the support of USAID through the Coastal Water Quality Improvement Programme (CWIP) for its support.
